Chris Weinke living in Bradenton
You always knew Chris Weinke would be back in football. It's been 10 years since he led the 'Noles to a perfect season, going wire to wire for Bobby Bowden's second national championship. The former Heisman Trophy winner was in the NFL from 2001-2007 playing for both the Carolina Panthers and San Francisco 49ers. And after a few years in the business world, Weinke is back in the game as the Director of the IMG/Madden Football Academy in Bradenton, Florida. "This offers me the opportunity under the tutelage of Coach Madden and alongside long time NFL and college coaches to gain coaching experience and work with some of the best minds in the game," said Weinke. As the director of the academy, Weinke will coach, hire staff for camps, and work closely with John Madden to build curriculum for the students.
We may have to take a trip to IMG boys to see if we can chat with the Weinkster...pretty awesome.

Death by a thousand cuts
I see that we are all speechless about the healthcare "reform" that was passed on Sunday or as I like to call it, America's death by a thousand cuts. Constitutionality aside, these guys are so clueless as to what the American people want it's insane. The representative from our district got the front-door of her office smashed in from people angry about her support for the bill. Now obviously I don't condone vandalism but that just shows the level of anger from the people she is supposed to represent.
The next thing they plan to shove down our throats is financial regulation reform. This from the lame-duck senator from CT who if you just look at his picture screams career-politician. Why can't he just retire and leave us alone instead of saddling us with more regulation and another consumer protection agency to protect us from the big bad businessman. We already have a consumer protection agency, it's called the internet. Freedom of information=consumer protection.
These incumbents are ripe for the picking. All of them. The dems are obviously off their rockers but the republicans are no better. They are so obviously removed from reality it is sickening. We need congressional seats to be unpaid positions again, or term limits, or something. This has gotten way out of hand.

Hey Been A While... Beer
Hey guys how are you? It's been awhile... Hope you guys are all doing great! Looking through the old posts I just noticed some of you, or Eric at least, are into craft beer! Just wondering if this is catching on wherever you are. Finally seeing real beer being served in more places in Miami. Also, Eric, have you tried brewing anything else since the pale ale in December? Just wondering, we're interested in trying down here in Miami and would be curious about any advice you have to offer. Happy brewing!
NCAA Tournament Challege
Join up ladies and gents and let's have some fun. It seems pretty wide open this year as there is not a completely dominate team. Certainly teams like Kentucky and Kansas look solid, but definitely beatable. FSU will make it for the second straight year this year probably a 8-10 seed so hopefully just winning ONE game will be good. Will UF miss it for the third straight year??? We shall find out in about 2 hours it is a fun time of year so sign up and let's pick some winners.

[L] Possible Federal Ban on Fishing
Well, this could be another step in Obama's plan. Does he just want more control or does he just hate America?
Maybe this issue is being overblown, but it sure seems like Obama is trying to take American rights and hand the control to the feds at an exponential rate.

Sad day at the Beal household
Opie went to doggy heaven yesterday. Mom found him floating in the bayou. He has been in and out with his senility the past 6 months or year. He was deaf and had poor eye site. Dad had him on some meds but took him off as he seemed to be worse on them. After a month of him wandering off and falling in the bayou, his time was up. Mom says he had a wonderful day before falling in. He played chase a few times with Peppy, he slept in the warm sun, and had a few snacks.
He would have been 15 in May.
RIP Opie!

It is not as bad as what Drew got hit with in DC, but we have not had snow here since 89. It was a solid couple inches after it was a done snowing and it was pretty cool to see the palm trees covered in snow. I thought I moved from NYC to avoid this crap....global warming my butt.

Randomness
So I am doing some spring cleaning (in January) by trying to remove my old web presence on plaza.ufl.edu. This required me to resurect my old login by getting my password reset (thought to do this last time we were in gville visiting debbie). It also required me to find the little sheet of paper that my new password was written on. Found this today while doing some actual cleaning.
It's pretty funny what all I had on the plaza.ufl.edu ftp site. Found some old programs that I wrote way back when. One of them was a flash game to play beer pong that I never finished (link). Another was a program that would pick winning lottery numbers by going out on the web and grabbing past winning numbers to help predict (link). Man, this guy had some ambition way back when what happened to that guy?
Also found a bunch of SimCity screenshots that I apparently thought were worth saving for some reason:

Rented Toyota Yaris 1 - Costa Rican Jungle River 0
It has been a great while since I have posted on the blog so I have a backlog of happenings to share. Today's post concerns my Costa Rican Adventure.

The above picture is what happens when a bridge washes out and you need to be on the other side of the river. I had purchased full insurance and felt my rented yaris would make it across, or be light enough to push out should the river prevail.
What they do not mention in the tour guides is the easy availability of liquor of all kinds even far removed from civilization. Alcohol reminds people how much fun go fish can be at 4am in the middle of the jungle. It also gave me ample ammunition to try and scratch an item from my bucket list to R. Kelly a monkey in a foreign land, but sadly alcohol also makes the aim poor and the sight hazy.

Costa Rica is more than just failing infrastructure and peed upon monkeys it is also crazy scenic, where a drive across country has many wonders to behold. Upon my return to the states and my place of employment, I was told it by a co-worker that it reminded her of Arkansas. I have not had the chance to set foot in the state of the razorback and Clintons, but if it looks anything like Costa Rica, I would never make an inbred pig caller joke again because they would be some of the smartest people in the world to keep something so beautiful a secret by pretending to be extras from deliverance.

While in Costa Rica I picked up a surf board, mainly because I thought it might be hilarious to visit a Costa Rican ER, but to my surprise being tall and completely uncoordinated do not hamper your ability to surf. WII has given me impressive balance skills that lend themselves nicely to surfing. No pictures were taken during our surf excursion so you will have to take my word on my long board skills.
In our little jungle surfing community we met some expats both of the feline and crazy variety. A grown woman at a bar who speaks only through her lamb chop puppet is completely acceptable in my book, but then again I enjoy people with some freak on them. I also shared my $6 dollar lobster with a cat that hopped in my lap, at $6 dollars I can afford to share my lobster. The spiny lobster is proof of the unfair nature of the universe, you are made delicious and accompany butter perfectly, but have no claws or defense mechanisms with which to spare yourself from the boil.

It was a good time and a land where normal hangover rules do not apply, because apparently you can drink as much costa rican beer as you want and feel no ill effects, unless you happen to be a monkey casually walking through the jungle who just happens to pass below my balcony, then my friend you will feel an ill effect of a whole different variety.

Growing Up - Step 1
So now that I am in a serious relationship again and bachelor life appears to be over, I decided to re-focus on the long-term and make some changes financially. The most obvious change being reducing my $600 car payment on my Evolution. After about two months of removing/selling parts and finding a car, I finally made the deal this weekend.
From $36k 2008 Mitsubishi Evo GSR...

To $18k 2005 Subaru WRX STI...

Obviously I was crazy upside-down in the Evo, but I was able to sell all my aftermarket parts for about $6k, so I was able to get out cleanly...which is a miracle considering I owned it 1 year in January.
Step 1 Complete.

Cut the Cord
So last night at around 11pm something miraculous occurred.
We finally cut the cord and cancelled our service with DIRECTV. Furthermore, we did not replace them with any new cable/satellite provider.
We will now be getting all of our content through HD Over-the-air, Hulu, Netflix, ESPN 360, or possibly purchasing a season of something through I-Tunes.
I'm sure there will be an adjustment period as watching whatever was on was the fall-back activity in times of boredom but it got to the point where we just couldn't justify the cost each month.
Anyone else out there cut the cord or thinking about it?

Race Results
In response to Nick's last comment on the previous race post, I am being compelled by an individual with whom I share residence to post the following picture:
Upon close inspection you can see that one of us was given an overall ranking of 4855 while the other was given an overall ranking of 4854 even though the times were identical. Some might call this a victory, others might call shenanigans.

[L] Competitor Wireless
So Jen & I are doing another PF Chang's 1/2 Marathon this next Sunday. I just got an email from PF Changs about this website https://www.competitorwireless.com/ where friends & family can track a runner's progress through the event and receive text updates at certain splits.
It's not free ($2 for the first runner, $1 for each additional runner) so it's obviously not for everyone but maybe some of you might be interested and no doubt my mom will be interested :).

Repaired 360
As many of you heard, Alex's 360 fell victim to the dreaded RROD. Instead of paying to get it fixed by Microsoft, he offered it up to me for a repair attempt while he got a new one. One heatsink modification and intentional overheat later... a working 360! Hopefully the fix will prove to be permanent.

Finished Kegerator
It's 2 days after Christmas and I've finished the kegerator build. The beer has been kegged and in our kitchen fridge for a while now, but I just got the mini fridge for Christmas. Admittedly the beer didn't come out great, but it's much better that it's coming from a tap in my house. Now I need to build a bar/buffet to go next to it to make Christina happy.

Possibly the Most Ridiculous Post Ever...
I honestly don't know why I'm asking this, because I am very aware that the people who routinely read this blog are likely not the people to be asking this question... but does anyone happen to watch So You Think You Can Dance? I was just curious, because I literally cannot stop talking about Jakob & Kathryn's contemporary piece last night and am running out of people to listen me say how amazing it was. Anyone? Guilty pleasure? It was seriously one of the most beautiful displays of dancing I've ever seen... even if you don't like dancing you'd probably think it was awesome. One of them better win tonight.

Nick's new job
Well it has finally happened I found myself a job I will be working for Robert Half as a recruiter. It is not what I moved down here expecting to do, but I am pretty excited about it. They specialize in placing Accounting and Finance professionals and like to hire people who have worked in the industry before coming to them so it kind of worked out. I will essentially become a glorified salesman of sorts and no a degree is necessary, but it makes me feel better that they pretty much only hire people who have degrees haha. I will be making a minimal base salary and will get a bonus each month depending on how many people I place in a job. So for the first 6 - 9 months or so I will not be making a ton of money, enough to live off of for sure but after I start rolling there could really be some good money in it. Hopefully the economy keeps improving and hopefully by the end of 2010 we are really starting to roll again. So not what I was expecting obviously, but hey you never know. I will say this people in this job all seemed to be very happy, which is a huge improvement over the people I worked with at my other jobs.

Bowls
Well yesterdays championship games were all pretty good (depending on who you like of course). It was pretty clear Bama was the better team, but hey two losses in two years is pretty damn good, trust me I would love to be in your position. I feel bad for most UF fans you have to understand it is tough for us to feel bad when a lot of you are like Rory (love you) which makes it tough. I wonder if the loss of Dunlap was that big or if it would not have mattered to much, I think it did. Anyway lets hope for good bowl matchups in the BCS. I hope they really mix it up and put like TCU v UF or GT or something like that. I think TCU could honestly beat anybody in this country, except Bama who looked very good.
I hope FSU gets to go to the Gator Bowl (which we do not deserve), but it would be awesome for us to get a shot to go to Bobby's last game. I am hoping somehow it works out it will make a lot of other ACC teams mad, but oh well they can suck it.
Alex where is Auburn looking to go bowling and against who??

This is all I really wanted for Bobby... even if it wasn't really his decision. At least he didn't get fired (well, not officially), and I hope he will remain a familiar face within the program and school for a while. He deserves a nice send off at the Progresso Soup Bowl or wherever we go.

Game Day
Well lets start this off with a sorry Alex. I could not watch any of the game, but it sounded like a good one I was pulling for you guys. You guys seemed pretty damn close to winning obviously the 4Q was not something you can be happy about.
Ok well let me give my realistic opinion on the FSU game. If we had Ponder I would like our chances a lot better, but we are starting a freshman QB making his 3rd career start. We are also missing our best OL who got injured two games ago. With those injuries going against that UF defense will be no easy task. We are also fielding a very bad defense that gives up a lot of rushing yards, which against Teblow is never a good thing. So for FSU to win we have to play near perfect on offense ( max 1 turnover) and we have to create a some turnovers ( something like 3). We also need to win the special teams battle or at the very least keep it neutral. Even if we win the turnover battle I just can't see our defense holding UF to below 24. Every FSU game has been fun to watch for better or for worse.
Now since this is a rivarly game you never know what can happen. We have nothing to lose and we do have speed and talent all over the field. Winning this game would not make our season, but it has a way of redeeming a bad season. Beating UF and taking them out of the title hunt would make my week. Beating Tebow in his last game would be great and handing you cocky assholes a loss would be something everybody would enjoy. FSU can win and I fully believe it.
GO NOLES BABY I HAVE FAITH...PS I will not be watching game day because I want to avoid the Tebow dick sucking fest that it will be. I will be posting my thoughts and comments during the game...
Rory today I hate you
Ok well let me give my realistic opinion on the FSU game. Next Saturday
Next Saturday I will be doing a live FSU v UF blog. I will start drinking around 1 that way come 3:30 I am amped up a little. This blog will just be a running documentary of my thoughts, emotions and just how I go through FSU football games. Please feel free to chime in because it will be filled with hating of UF, Rory and FSU. Many of my posts will be filled with one liners and curse words, exclamation points and offensive statements. It will be very juvenile in nature which is what I am all about. My thoughtful prediction thread will come later in the week.
Jae please invite Danny to the blog as he expressed desire to view the blog as he knows how I get during games. What do you need his email address or does he just need to try to log in? GO NOLES AND AUBURN UPSET CITY!!!!
Nick D = Tyler Durden...Rory = Ariel (little mermaid)

Thanksgiving
So who is going to be around for this lovely holiday? I am getting in on Tuesday night and leaving the following Monday. And since I am the only one of my siblings coming home, it will be a low key Thanksgiving at the Fasoli Household.

Pats
Well I cannot believe what I just watched. The Pats played a spectacular game and yet somehow ended up losing. I know people don't like the Patriots but come on. The officials gave this thing to Indy. The second to last drive had that completely BS pass interference call that gave the Colts a TD way faster than they should have gotten it. Then the 4th and 2 spotting was pathetic. Yes it was risky for the Pats to go for it and it was stupid of them to use their timeouts so foolishly, but it was so clearly a first down. Ridiculous. I'm so sick of the refs deciding the outcome of games. Either way, the Pats looked awesome and assuming the refs don't continue these shenanigans, they have a good shot at going deep into the playoffs. That was the biggest waste of an evening. I wish I had gone to bed on time. Fuck you stupid refs.

New Lows and Predictions
Well Bowdens dirty little secret has finally got out to the national media and I am glad for it. His post game comments have been down right embarrassing for a couple of years now, but have taken on a whole new animal this year. Personally I am glad this came out it needed to, our Athletic Director will need all the ammunition he can to get Bowden to leave. I am sorry it is time for Bobby to go it is sad and embarrassing him and FSU. He is getting paid a ton of money to do nothing, NOTHING. I hope to god we have enough balls not to bring him back next year, we need, he needs it. Another year of this will just drive recruiting down for another year. If he stays on I want Jimbo to have full control of everything and Bobby can walk around and scratch his old wrinkled ass for all I care. Anyway predictions.
FSU @ Wake - I would have predicted a win, but we have a Freshman QB making his first ever start. I think our D will do OK, but Wake has a good QB and will put up some points. I think our running game keeps us in the game with the Frosh QB looking pretty decent. I just can't see us coming out on top as Wake is pretty disciplined Wake 27 - 24.
Auburn @ Dogs - This should be a good game to watch and I like Auburn to get another win and move to 8-3. I think this will be close though because Georgia is at home, I expect Auburn to win by 10+. Auburn 35 - 24.
UF @ SC - I think this game will be won by the defenses. I think UF will come out on top with a constant offense and their suffocating defense. I think it will be pretty close, but UF wins. 24 - 13

Ouch
I cannot believe this impact! Ponder should have just thrown himself in front of the guy instead of lead with his throwing shoulder. Poor guy.
Hopefully for the best
Well in the process of losing this weekend FSU officially will hit a all time low. Ponder is out against Wake and possibly the rest of the year, which means I see no way we can become bowl eligible. It is pathetic how far FSU has fallen and I am kind of happy for it. I see no way possible Bowden can possibly try to comeback. If he does I will be so pissed off, he needs to see the light and realize he is done. We might win one more game this year and a below .500 percentage is almost certain. I appreciate what he has done, but things HAVE to change. Ever since we let him put his jerk of a son as a offensive coordinator we gave him to much power. As bad as it sounds I can see us bending over and letting him comeback which would make me sick. Any small chance we had a winning any games this year probably went down the drain with Ponders injury. Ugh.......
