Link. Jen has been doing this for over a year now and she loves it. One advantage (to the employers) that is not mentioned is that the employees get much less overtime.
I would love a 4-day work week...but until they change the hours of the bond market...I don't have a choice. So while the rest of the world is enjoying every Friday off...I won't be able to. The only option we might have is to stagger our schedules so we are 1/2 staffed Monday and Friday, but everyone gets that extra day off.
The Federal Government has something similar to that. If you want to work your 40 hours in 4 days you can take Friday off. It is actually pretty nice because you miss all the rush hour commuters and get Friday off.
The company where I work (AEGON - not the company I work for - just where my fitness center is located) offers "summer hours" to their employees, which I imagine is another alternative. It's optional and only available during the summer, obviously... but basically they just work an extra hour Mon-Thurs and a 1/2 day on Friday.

that's interesting, i guess because of the longer days during the summer.
