What OS are you running on your desktop? Has the jump to 64 bit architecture been worthwhile? The Athlon XPs are stupid cheap now-a-days. Any buyers remorse on the desktop or laptop? I imagine you're like me and mostly do email/web-browsing, do you find the new comp to be overkill for this?

The desktop is running XP MCE, and the laptop is running OS X Tiger.
I guess you could say "the jump" has been worthwhile although 64 bit processors are common now, having been out for 3 years. They will be fully realized when Vista and Leopard are released, which will be soon. Unless you want a completely outdated PC in 3 months, at least get an Athlon64. Step ups would obviously be the Athlon64X2 and the Athlon64FX. (FX is stupid expensive)
No buyers remorse, and I guess I'm not like you when it comes to computer activity. Along with web browsing and email, I do a lot of photo editing, playing Oblivion (very CPU and video intensive) and coding, both for apps and the web. I couldn't imagine running photoshop or visual studio on PC parts circa 2002.
I also don't believe that a PC could be called overkill when I only spent $1000 on it; it's not like it's a super computer. At that price point, the less time spent waiting on loading times, the better.
Overall I'm extremely happy with the performace:cost of my PC. I'm expecting it to last me a long time without issues.
I bought a rotory durtour for my XP7385XXX473 Airus 5 Mach 7 Super Computer. Its pretty sweet.
