First set of pics is of the deadening process. Since I have done so many performance mods i.e. cold-air intake, performance header, and test-pipe (no catalytic converter), my car has gotten pretty loud. In order to get full potential out of my system, we wanted to eliminate the road and exhaust noise. First step was to remove the entire interior down to the metal, then lay the deadening mat, and followed by two full gallons of deadening paint. Enjoy.

Next, we layed the deadening mat...
Followed by deadening paint...
Next we layed all the wire. We rewired everything included the stock speakers I did keep. Total we used about 300' of wire...this took the longest. All connections were soldered. Here is only a portion of the wiring.
Finally the finished product. A huge amount of work went into getting all this stuff in. Speaker box was custom made by my brother and I and carpeted to match the interior. For the door speakers I went from 5.25" to 6.5" meaning we had to cut the sheet metal in the doors and fabricate custom baffles for the speakers. For the tweeters, I used my handy Dremel to cut the holes in the door panels so I could flush mount them.
Well there you go. Now you know why it took us so long. It was well worth the time because my new system is like an eargasm! I have never heard anything so beautiful! Thank god I am done though:)

That is SWEET!!! you should run Pimp my ride. I like how the door panels are done. Did the deading mats and paint make a big difference?
The deadening made a HUGE difference! Thank god since it was so much work...if it didn't I would have been pissed.
that looks awesome man, congrats on doing such a clean job. any way to get a video of the finished product on youtube so i can hear the system and see the head unit in action? most digital cams can take movies now-a-days.
also, how about some dollars and cents on the project?
Well my parents have the first digital ever made so video is out of the question. Eventually I am going to get my own digicam. As far as dollars and cents go, you guys will think I am crazy. With all the equipment (including new iPod), deadening material, wiring, custom box, everything you can think of...I estimated final cost at about $2100. If I had had it professionally installed like my brother and I did it...probably another $1500. So it was expensive.
im very impressed that job looks excellent...i mean shit looks better then anywork we paid for back in the day...this may be a stupid question but how much of this knowledge did you gain by just searching the internet or where the there directions with the purchased equipment...because if you charged me for work like that and i got it back i would be very happy...perhaps a little side business venture is in order using your car as sort of a see look what I can do...
Everything I have done to my car I have done myself and that is only thanks to ClubRSX.com. That is an online forum dedicated to the RSX and you can find any info you want. For example: I have the HELMS manual for my car. This is a 1500 page manual that the dealerships use when they work on your car. Now I do my own tune-ups, oil changes, you name it. Someone on the forum posted a .pdf format of the manual ,complete with links. The forum gives me all the info and when my brother and I ran into a snag, we just posted our problem and someone will usually answer pretty quickly. The directions that came with the equipment were pretty weak, so we relied on online research. There are just so many advantages to doing it yourself: save big time money, gain lots of knowledge, and you know it was done right. Thanks for the compliments by the way!
Nice work! It looks like a professional job! However, I can't imagine parting with that much money, but that is probably because I don't have that much money :)
Well remember: no girlfriend, little rent, no utilities, no grocery bill, and huge WaMu severance package (suckers). My car is what I do as sad as that sounds, so it is easy for me to save that kind of money.
your car is what you do...i might have chosen a different way to word that but hey whatever floats ur boat...hope that tail pipe feels good...bwahaha
It looks bad ass. I was actually surprised it didn't cost more... Does that make me crazy? Maybe I have been living up north for too long where everything costs a damn fortune.
P.S. Saving Silverman?? Did you steal the DVD player and that was left in there? To show off your ride, I would expect nothing less than Spiderman from you!
You both are wrong, the only thing that dvd player is allowed to play is porn.
Get your heads out of your asses and get back in the game! :)
Damn Leighton, I'm impressed. When I have some money, I'll take my car to you for some installation!
Just expect it back in five days...haha.
I actually got a steal on the hu. SonicElectronix.com is the way to go. The face plate and wiring harness came free with hu which is really only about $30, but every little bit counts, and they are hard to find. That hu usually sells for like $1300-$1400 retail and I got it for like $950.
