Back on the health wagon

The past three weeks (NYC, Connecticut, Adam's Wedding, Vegas, Phoenix) have put a hurt on my waistline. I probably gained a solid 5 lbs from all of the eating out.

So to get a jump start back on the health wagon, I have started on the Take Shape for Life program. This is the same program that my mom used to lose 60lb in 4 months.

I will try it out for a few weeks. This is a dual-effort. On one hand I will get back down to my fighting weight. On the other hand, I will learn about the program and its products since I intend to become a part-time health coach in the program. My mom has been health coaching for the past few years and is making really good money at it while helping others at the same time.

Today is my second day on the program and so far so good. Will update as progress is made (or not made).

Food journal for today:
6 am: Oatmeal (M)
9 am: Vanilla shake (pre-mixed,M)
10:30 am: Crisps (snack,M)
12 pm: Jimmy John's #1 unwich
3 pm: Crunch bar (M)
6 pm: Strawberry shake (M)
9 pm: Chocolate pudding (*,M)

Is this the skip dinner diet? That doesn't sound fun at all. What is the nutritional breakdown of those shakes? Maybe Drew can be your first client...

I agree with adam that sounds very unfulfilling. How long are you supposed to eat that way for? Is this designed for people who are already at a good weight like you TheJ?

Drew I got your back you looked slim down at the wedding.

No, it's the eat every 3 hours diet. Five of the six meals are medifast products. There are over 60 different medifast products that you can eat as a meal. I do the shakes because they are easy and I am lazy. Each meal is a well balanced mix of protein, carbs, and fortified with vitamins. One meal a day is a serving of lean meat and three servings of green veggies.

The first 3 days are the hardest as your body gets used to switching into a fat-burning state. After that, they say you don't even feel hungry and actually should have more energy than before. When I eat normally (not on the program), I often crash after meals and end up feeling more hungry than when I started. The past two days I can attest to the fact that I have not felt this crash.

It is probably less designed for people like me than someone with more weight to lose. As I said, I am also doing this just to learn the program. You only stay on this portion of the plan until you reach your goal weight. Afterwards, you gradually switch into a more traditional meal plan and off the medifast products. Of course keeping the weight off is as much of a struggle as losing it, so medifast meals make it easier to eat every three hours since you don't have to plan out meals.

You got my attention J...I imagine this is more designed for someone like me than it is for you. What is involved in starting this program?

I'm down for being a guinea pig I think.

I am always willing to be a guinea pig.

I am worried however that you do not have beer listed anywhere in your diet. Is this a Mon-Fri diet? Those are my favorite. haha
