How does this freepay stuff work? Seems like a pyramid scheme except the interview w/ the CEO said that it isn't since there is no membership fee, it is apparently the same as Netflix offering you a discount for referring friends.
Anyway, the deal is that you select a digital camera that you want, then you have to complete an offer (I did the credit report one, they are from reputable businesses such as Walmart and blockbuster), then you refer friends (which is the step I am on). After 10 referrals complete an offer, your camera will be shipped to you.
Pretty good idea I guess, not really sure if I can get 10 people to complete offers but worth a shot I guess. The offer I picked was that you do a 7-day free trial for a credit reporting service (you obviously want to call and cancel otherwise they automatically start charging you $15/mo after 7 days), but assuming you call and cancel then you are re-imbursed the $1 processing fee and end up not being charged anything.

I can't believe you haven't heard of this type of thing before. You can get just about anything this way; iPods, laptops, xboxs, PCs, mac minis, PSPs, TVs, etc, etc. I think it started with iPods. It's so profitable for these companies becuase they get paid every time one of their members completes an offer, and the common case is that the participant doesn't get 10 friends (or more, depending on gift) to do it, so they pay out nothing. On top of that, the gift you are getting if you complete everything is more than likely OEM or refurbished.
even a refurbed $400 camera is awesome when it costs $0 and ~15mins
fo sheez,

We'll see if you can talk 10 people into giving away credit card and mailing address info to the scum of the business world when they know that they'll have to get 10 people other than you and your friends. I know, I've done it. Then after finishing, I didn't get the item b/c they claimed offers were completed incorrectly by referrals. Am I bitter? Yes.
On an unrelated topic, I thought my day 2 submission was marginally funny, and must declare shenanigans on Jenny's submission receiving 4 points. Bias judging, maybe; competitiveness coming through, definitely.
PS: Jenny's day 3 submission was really funny, I laughed out loud in my deadly silent office (yes, everyone looked at me).
geez eric, never seen you get so angry before (except maybe during a baseball game). it smells of a woman scorn up in this thread ;-).
lol @ you laughing in your office

regarding Jenny's day 2 sentence, did you not see the Correspondent's Dinner?
I figured yours to be marginally funny for day 2 as well, but I gave 4 anyway.
You have to consider the low signup rate for Freepay. Only every 20th person who signs up using your referral link accepts one of Freepay's offers and becomes green in your account. I have for instance for the laptop a signup rate of 5,38 per cent. 390 people signed up and 21 accepted an offer for the laptop until now. You can see it at:
http://www.laptop-kostenlos.tk/
For the iPod I have a signup rate of 5,74 per cent. 87 people signed up and 5 accepted an offer. At least I could order my laptop and the iPod already. But now I am afraid they take away referrals claiming their offers were completed incorrectly.
It's a hard job. But it is possible to make it.
It's good to see someone getting the job done, the G4TV story that ran must have been old (I stumbled across it) but they only needed 5 referrals.
Anyway, the extent of my efforts to get referrals stops w/ posting this blog. I already have a digital camera anyway ;)
