San Diego Zoo

The battery on our camera pooped out before we got to the lions, elephants, giraffes, anything else you think may be missing. Here's the pics we did get though:

Jenny and I are goin' down to San Diego to hit up the zoo today. Supposed to head out of here at 6am (half hour from now) to try and beat the traffic. Will be back later tonight and will post pics of the monkeys humping*. Later.

The New Project

I've started planning a new project that utilizes the handyman and nerd sides of me, and I thought I'd let you all know. In the coming months I plan to begin construction on a full-size upright arcade cabinet, which will house an old PC chock full of MAME Roms, just over 5000 of them last time I checked. Controls will include a 4-player layout and a trackball. I built a scale model (approx 1/10) tonight to get an idea of how it would look, and I am more than satisfied. I'm thinking this project can be done in a minimum of 3 months and a max of 6, depending on how easily I can find some of the parts I need on the cheap. Here are some pics of the model.

I am risen

I went a way for a while to a sunny spot in fort myers with a corp. card and a $200 a night hotel with free happy hour. I am now officially officified having been given an office of my very own to do with as I please. I left when there were only 4 contributors and now I see we have many more. As a reward I give you www.usanbt.com, enjoy. I will post some office pics when I move in, but sadly operations said I cannot put a spear on my wall as it may pose a security threat. I will also post pics of my apartment when and if I decide to fill it with furniture, it looks so big empty, and the savings account looks big too minus the buying of furniture. Good to hear from everyone. I was wondering if anyone has seen Angela lansbury in a while or is it that stage in her career when she poses for playboy. Also Josh/Brain Cancer 1, Whitney Houston 0.

Computer bogged down?

Hey all you Windows users, has your computer been running really slowly? My laptop has and it's been pissing me off. I uninstalled all unused programs, defragged, scandisked, virus scanned, spyware scanned and it was still running slowly. I figured I'd test the water and try to find something to clean my registry (I figured I had a few problems in it). I downloaded a few but finally settled on this one:

It's called WinASO Registry Optimizer. It's free to try so I did a scan and as you can see, I have over 1000 errors in my registry! This program will fix them, but the free version will only fix 10 errors per scan (CRAP). Luckily it tells you how many errors per area so you can disable scanning those areas so subsequent scans won't take as long. If you are not cheap like me you can shell out $29.95 and fix all your errors at once (moneybags).

PS: That scan took about 5-10 minutes but hopefully your comp won't be in as bad a shape

Alright Logan, get to work learning this one

Ellen Show

Jenny and I spent 8 hours Wednesday at the taping of the "Ellen in the Park" show that will air this coming Monday. Any of you that will be free when the show airs better watch and tape it since we won't be able to watch it and can't tape.

This has been the second show that we've gone to and so far we have been twice disappointed (the other being King of Queens). There seems to be a similar caliber employee that works these shows who gets extreme enjoyment out of controlling a large number of people (minus Jenny and I) who are willing to cut each others' throats to get close to a "celebrity".

Being confined to be near these people for 8 hours was enough to push me to mass-homicide. To cap it all off, I didn't get any of the free Johnsonville brats and fries because when we got off of the bus we were herded into a "holding area" (read: a pig pen) and the tard who was running the holding area said there was not enough time. This guy has just stepped in between me and free brats and has just become the luckiest person alive for still having all his fingers.

I am done with these shows. I was expecting that Ellen would give out something cool like she normally does. All we got was a stupid XL tshirt that I snatched out of the air before this lady in front of me (who already had two of the same, what was she making a raft and needed a sail?) could get her grubby mits on them.

I still vote for burning down Hollywood,
Jae

Let me know what you think.

As all of you know I have been very sick for sometime now. I am actually getting well enough to get a job now!! I have an opportunity and want to know what all of you think about it. I would be running the online version of Gulfstream Marine. http://www.gulfstream-marine.com Obivously I wouldn't be dealing with the creation of the site or anything but I would start out taking the online orders, billing, packing and sending the stuff people order. This doesn't seem like much and it isn't but I feel this company has huge potential. The guy who runs it now is taking off in Feb 07 and going to need someone to take over the whole operations. The company opened up Feb 5 this year and has already doubled in size and that is without even having an online store. Anyway, I would start out on the bottom but have the potential to run the whole thing in 5 months! I didn't think much of it but Bass Pro shops, Worldwide sportsman, even walmart had to start somewhere.
Oh, btw, the store is in Deland so I would live in either Daytona (20 min drive) or Maitland/Winterpark (30-40 mins)
You all know me....lets hear it, pros and cons!

www.zillow.com

For those of you, i.e. Jenny and I, that may be looking into real estate in the near future, this is a really great website built on top of google maps that allows you to do endless research into the properties in your area of interest.

Even if you are not in the same boat as us, take a look at your parents, neighbors, friends, Tom Cruise's houses...

Come back football

I went on gatorzone today and watched some clips of the bowl game win. It wasn't enough to quench my thirst though. When is footbal coming back? All that's on now is baseball, who gives a shit about baseball ;-).

At least world cup is this year.

-Thej

A little something I found on the Internet....after looking at porn of course.

So I saw this online and thought you all might think its interesting, I don't know how true it is but here it is anyway:
Do the following facts reflect the NBA or NFL?

36 have been accused of spousal abuse
7 have been arrested for fraud
19 have been accused of writing bad checks
117 have directly or indirectly bankrupted at least 2 businesses
3 have done time for assault
71 cannot get a credit card due to bad credit
14 have been arrested on drug-related charges
8 have been arrested for shoplifting
21 currently are defendants in lawsuits,
and 84 have been arrested for drunk driving in the last year

Well? Which is it? The NBA or NFL?
Neither, it's the 535 members of the United States Congress. The same group that cranks out hundreds of new laws each year designed to keep the rest of us in line.

Portend

A screenshot from the Oxford English Dictionary, showing that there is more than one definition for portend. Also, I believe that this makes using portend to mean "pretend" is also accurate, although it is not the most commonly used definition for the word. I think we should be seeing some extra points for Adam and Brian, too.

Word of the day

In retaliation for Jae's use of slang, unofficial dictionaries that lack complete definitions, I have decided to begin posting my own word/phrase of the day. Instead of having a completely different word each day, I will attempt to expand your vocabulary by posting a new synonym each day. This synonym of the day will be equally as colloquial and far more interesting. Feel free to try to use the word in a sentence (if you are man/woman enough) or post another synonym that you like. Points will be awarded for originality and to those sentences that make fun of Jae. =) Here goes nothing:

Word #1:

"salami garage"

Risk redemption...

We broke out Risk again since I had sufficiently cooled off. This time we had the opposite results, I was the one-stop-shop for 5s and 6s and Jenny couldn't catch a break. Needless to say we didn't get the game finished since Jenny reached boiling point and messed up all the pieces. The Risk designers have created a game that nobody can finish because one person always gets too pissed off, it's great.

Maybe next time one of us will reach world domination, but I doubt it.

The Simple Life part 2

Sorry for taking so long to post the pics...been busy lately and haven't had a chance. Here are the long awaited pics of the animals! First is Jack. He is about a 900 lbs mammoth jack-ass. When standing up straight, his ears probably reach 7-7.5 feet. He is a big ol' baby though.

Next is Scooter. He is a 3 yr old Quarter Horse. Think having a 3 yr old kid is bad...try having a 1000 lbs one. He is in to everything! He is a riot though and loves to drink beer. I somehow managed to snag a pic while he was licking his lips so it looks like he is sticking his tongue out at me...very fitting. Second pic is looking into the barn. You can see Scooter, Kelly (Step-mom), Dad, and Stormy in the background.

Third is Stormy. She is Kelly's horse and she is called a Painted because of her spots. She used to run barrels and is a very good horse. A little more moody than the boys...but aren't all women?

We normally have about 5-6 cats that hang around at any given time, but really only 3 are ours (they came with the house). Here is a pic my little sweet kitty Schmen (I didn't name her). She is the sweetest cat and when I move out, I'm taking her with me.

Finally, is the bunnies. The one in the cage is Biscuit. We just kind of adopted her. The black one was originally named Sadie because we assumed it was a girl and Kelly named it. After we adopted Biscuit, we discovered Sadie was really a boy because he started humping the crap out of Biscuit. So what do you name a black bunny? Nate Johnson of course!

Where's the beef? I mean pics...

As someone who is forced on a daily basis to see small dogs in sweaters (and shoes in some instances), I demand Leighton post some pics of his farm-animals so that I can remain sane. Come on Leighton, let's see em...

I made it big...

I have just been informed that my picture and name made it into the LA times (I think I posted about the possibility of this).

I found the text of the article here: http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-barefoot4may04,1,1170551.story

If anybody can find the pic that'd be awesome. It ran on page B2 of Thursday May 4th LA Times.

L.A. Farmer's Market Trip

Jenny and I went to the L.A. Farmer's Market today...I was dragged along just to see what it was like.

If that doesn't scream out for a motorcycle (>50mpg) I don't know what does.

The entrance to the market.

We bought some lunch trays here, hellz ya.

Yes that is a giant ear.

I have found Hell, and it's name is Sticker Planet...

Jenny is loving it...

Some random shots of the area

I found where the queers drop off their testicles when they come out here to live...

This is what passes for sunglasses out here...

Over to the left of this fountain we saw Dr. 90210's wife, let me say that she looks even sicklier (a word?) in person than on TV. Adam, right up your alley! We heard on tv that she weighs 85lb and after seeing her I believe it.
Cool fountain though and Jenny is cute as always.

Cinco de mayo turned out to be a rainey (sp) mess in Tally but i drank beers after my test regardless of the sun i am now looking forward to the cavs game at 8 tonight...GO LEBRON....as for leighton it must be nice to have VP's looking over ur resume good luck my friend....they will know one day who "The Nick" is dont worry your friendship will pay off once i start nickville...and i do believe leightons sentence of "touche salesman" deserves some props after i defended my penis during jae's second word of the week...now i get off leightons balls and onto eric's oh wait jae can i borrow ur microscope ah fuck it....much love my friends...adios

Saw this on G4tv...

http://digitalcameras.freepay.com/?r=29859971

How does this freepay stuff work? Seems like a pyramid scheme except the interview w/ the CEO said that it isn't since there is no membership fee, it is apparently the same as Netflix offering you a discount for referring friends.

Anyway, the deal is that you select a digital camera that you want, then you have to complete an offer (I did the credit report one, they are from reputable businesses such as Walmart and blockbuster), then you refer friends (which is the step I am on). After 10 referrals complete an offer, your camera will be shipped to you.

Pretty good idea I guess, not really sure if I can get 10 people to complete offers but worth a shot I guess. The offer I picked was that you do a 7-day free trial for a credit reporting service (you obviously want to call and cancel otherwise they automatically start charging you $15/mo after 7 days), but assuming you call and cancel then you are re-imbursed the $1 processing fee and end up not being charged anything.

Ok everybody, here is a copy of Resume version 2.0. I have four WaMu VPs currently helping me, but any input is greatly appreciated. Version 1.0 was successfully destroyed, so this is my second attempt at a "grown-up" professional resume. Let me know what you think...

Leighton should post his resume

That way we can help him make it look good.

I went down to the career center and had my resume critiqued, I can probably help you out and I'm sure everyone else can as well.

First taste of corporate America...

So I got laid-off yesterday from my job at Washington Mutual. Not that I am surprised; after the first round of lay-offs last month, our jobs changed drastically. So, for the last couple weeks, I have been inventing things to do just to keep busy and keep from hanging myself in my cube. Long story short...my job was eliminated, along with every other admin below senior management. I didn't even like my job; it was such a waste of time...but they paid me well. It just sucks to have to find another one. I have a one month working notice, so technically my last day is June 2nd, plus I am eligible for 6 weeks severance...haha stupid bastards. I have the possibility of making out like a bandit.

Luckily...I worked in the a WaMu corporate hub and have made some very good contacts. I already have some VPs asking for my resume (which I have to update tonight), so it appears they will be doing the searching for me;) Suckers.

I was thinking of starting my own business, but I don't know what I would want to do...any ideas? I was thinking that once I move into Jax again, I might start a mobil detailing business since I love cars so much. What do you think? Selling myself short?

Day 1 of competition: Word is...

temerity

I'm proposing a game...

It will be a battle of wits. I will announce a new word chosen at random every day for one week.

Players are allowed to look up the definition if it is not known to them.

Each player may then post a comment using that word in a sentence, points will be awarded as follows:
  • Funny sentence using the word correctly - 4 points
  • Not funny sentence using the word correctly - 3 points
  • Funny sentence using the word incorrectly - 1 point
  • Not funny and incorrect sentence - 0 points

At the end of the week (Wednesday May 10th), the player with the highest score will win a prize to be determined based on the level of competition (ranging from $0-$10 of value).

The first word will be posted within the hour...

Original Tommy's Burger

It took almost 6 months but my time out here has finally found a purpose. Forget a Master's degree from Caltech, that is a footnote on an even greater accomplishment. I have found the best hamburger ever. It is the Original Tommy's Burger and it is basically a heart attack in your hand with a chili topping.

It's getting me hungry just talking about it.

You wanna play risk?

She's in, awesome (why wouldn't she be, she beats me every time).

(Deal Countries)

What a sweet spread, most of South America and North America, better stockpile the neutral guys in europe so she can't get that.

(Distribute initial armies)

Dude I am so in, time for an ass-kicking...

"Ready? Let's roll to see who goes first."
(I get high roll)

I am totally on fire

(First couple turns go as planned, I mop up South America, march my way up the east coast of the US and secure an extra 5 guys per turn. To be safe I fortify my men from Greenland into Iceland)

Okay, up next, plump up the border in Iceland while working into Asia, it'll take her another turn at least to get Europe w/ all those neutral armies.

(*Plump* border of ~9 men is attacked, clash of titans in Iceland's rolling green hills, my army is decimated within a few rolls)

"Fuck, I can't buy a six! Or anything over a three for that matter!"

She's the luckiest person I know, she should buy a lotto ticket

(Continued onslaught through Greenland and on towards South America, I roll 1... 2... 1...)

"Son of a *&%@*!!!"

I'm going to fucking kill someone, fuck you Eastern United States, Fuck you!

(Battle subsides, damage has been done. I have lost US and South America, left with strong holdings in Brazil and Alaska and 1 man in a few others. Total casualties ~15 on my side, 1 on hers. I trade in, 9 guys to place time to take back my homeland)

Here we go...

(I march back against her attack, things don't go nearly as planned. One-and-ones all along the way. I get to Greenland and stop, Fuck the Icelanders)

"Just gotta hold Greenland".
These guys better hold, Lord can I get a six, come on sixes.
I wonder how many she gets...12! are you serious, 12!

(Cannon plops down onto Iceland as if dropped by the hand of God himself)

I am so dead, this game lasted all of what, 15 minutes...
Who's bright idea was this anyway... Oh ya, mine.

(Blood pressure rising)

Must remain calm...maybe I can hold up stranger things have happened.

(She rolls, I roll)

Jenny, "Six Five"
Me, "Two One"

FUCK, are you kidding, come on Greenland what are you good for??

(She rolls, I roll)

Jenny, "Fives"
Me, "Four One"

Never again, never again, never again...

(The cold hand of death touches my men, they cease to be and my world turns red)

"Fuck!"

Jenny, "Sorry babe"

Ya right, she's as competitive as me and she's loving every minute of this.

(Flick, off goes my man across the room. I get up to get him. The box looks so innocent)

Fuck this game

(With a swift kick, black and grey pieces as far as the eye can see)

"This game sucks"

(I spend the next 5 minutes picking up army men while Jenny cleans up the board, I know she won, she knows I know she won, but I won't admit it)

I'm such a baby...

Finally done!!!

So I just fininshed my last Senior Design report, and I am glad to say that my autopilot works awesome. And to think it only took me a year longer than everyone else. Anyway here are some pictures of my plane. 16" wingspan and capable of fully autonomous flight. I am ready to claim my place as AN ENGINEERING GOD!!!!

2007 NCAA Sweet 16, are you kidding?

Saw on ESPN Motion today Joe Lunardi predicting the 2007 NCAA Sweet 16...

Can you think of a more unreliable prediction? It is only what, 11 months away without knowing who will stay around, haha. They are really stretching for content.

I should submit a clip of me predicting women's NCAA soccer matches, or maybe predictions of next groundhog's day (at least I'd have a 50-50 shot of being right). Better yet, I can predict the Duke's Men's Lacrosse record next season ;-) (hint, 0-0).

-Jae

PS: UF was predicted #1, ha

Great to see everyone posting

Hey all, I was just leaving work and I thought I'd check to see how the blog was doing. Let me just say that I am amazed how quickly everyone is joining! It's great to hear from you all, and hopefully we can keep it up.
I just had a really boring day at work, mostly spent going through Photoshop tutorials in order to hone my mad graphic design skills. I guess it's better than busting my ass doing manual labor!
My personal life is about to take a huge swing as Christina will be graduating from college this weekend, meaning she is no longer tethered to the Tampa area. Once she finds a job we plan on finding a place of our own (likely an apartment) somewhere between our workplaces. It will most likely be in the Palmetto, Bradenton, and Sarasota area.
Again, it's great to hear from everyone, and I'll keep you updated.
