Italy Trip

Those of you that have been.... If you could go for a week, would you spend the week in Rome or half a week in Milan and half a week in Florence?

It would probably depend on the time of year since northern Italy can be quite cool in fall/winter.

I've never been to Milan so I can't really judge that area, but I think you could def spend a solid 3-4 days in Rome since there is so much to see. You only need a 1-1.5 days for Florence (but stop in Siena too! - one of my favorites).

I'd recommend the Cinque Terre too if you are going during good hiking weather, it was absolutely beautiful there.

Hope that helps some. I think my Italy album is still on Facebook if you want to check out the Cinque Terre and I'd be happy to share our itinerary with you if you're interested (we went in late April). Get Rick Steve's Italy book too.

P.S. - You should really go for 2 weeks if you can swing it!

I preferred Florence over Rome but I wasn't in Rome very long.

Allie and I went in April and it was awesome! We spent about 3 days in Rome and 3 days in Tuscany and we were supposed to spend 2 days in Cinque Terre.

Don't go to the Cinque Terre!!! It was awful. We ate the cost of our hotel for an extra night and left early and went back to Rome. All the hiking between the towns is closed due to erosion. You can take the train between the towns but the hiking was the whole point. Plus it is super touristy and there really isn't much to do.

Jenny, we loved Siena too! It was our favorite. It is just a small medieval city with lots of history. Milan is cool but it is basically a large modern city with none of that Italian charm.

I am jealous that you are thinking of going there. Allie and I want to go back as soon as we can!

It'll be late March/Early April. I'll check out your Italy album Jenny.

This is a trip I earned through work. It includes airfare, breakfast daily, 3 dinners at supposedly nice restaurants and rooms at 5 star hotels for 2. Plus $1000 spending money. It's 7 nights so I can't really extend the trip.

Leighton...hint hint, we are hiring in Tampa/St Pete.

That's too bad about the Cinque Terre, Adam. I know you guys would have enjoyed the hike.

Congrats on the trip, Logan. April is a great time to go too. It may be a little chilly still (even in Rome) but it definitely beats the heat.

Have a great time (and take lots of pics!)
