Texas A&M has to pull the trigger first. There are a lot of rumors out there but nothing concrete yet.
However, if FSU did join, would the FSU crowd still not say the SEC is the best? I am betting that Nick wouldn't due to one of his ridiculous principles.
Listen man it has nothing to do with FSU wanting or not wanting to join the SEC. Rumor has it we would join IF OFFERED. However, the same rumor has it that UF would strongly oppose this and do everything possible to get other schools not to vote us in. (2/3 vote is required for acceptance of a new school).
If FSU continues on what looks like a good track I would welcome it. Let's look at the "Mighty" SEC East which is where they said we would play.
UF - FSU demolished last year USC - FSU Beat last year Kentucky - Garbage Vandy - Garbage Tenn - Good tradition, but been pretty bad the last 3 yrs Georgia - 7-6 last year
We would definitely accept though is what I hear, let's be honest the money, prestige and fans are all better.
i would be excited (Nick-ology: exited) for fsu to be an in-conference game for us.
sure it would make our schedule that much harder, but it would take the rivalry up to a whole new level.
the out-of-conference stuff was great in the 90s when national-championship dreams could be crushed. but the rivalry hasn't been at that level for a long time.
Agreed. My only concern with these potentially huge conference's is it will eliminate any out of conference/across country matchup. Now UF does not really do this, but other SEC schools do and so does FSU.
nick has a good point. especially living out west and having to hear them talk up the pac 10. the cross-conference matchups during the season are the only chance we get to compare conferences (bowl games don't count in my opinion since one or both teams don't show up to play).
Nick, it sounds like you think by moving to the SEC East the competition would be a the same or even a step down for FSU. Let's not forget FSU has been competing for division championships against perennial powerhouses BC, Clemson, Maryland, NC State, and Wake.
No I don't think so - I took it as Nick refuting the claim that he'd call the SEC the best just because FSU joined. Presently, the East isn't that much better than the ACC anyway (if at all).
Oh agreed, most definitely. I'd hate to have to play any two of those teams. Realistically I don't see this happening, but it would be interesting that's for sure.
I would be sad because that would eliminate any possibility of seeing FSU in the Boston area. It is nice every once and a while to get to see FSU simply because they are in the ACC with BC. I just enjoy hearing you guys argue about college football.
I personally believe it would be beneficial to both sides, and I would like to see it happen. The SEC gets another powerhouse for the conference with a huge fanbase, and FSU gets the increased exposure/money through TV contracts. I won't even mention recruiting, because let's be honest here...we're doing just fine already:)
Can you imagine if FSU/UF match-up at the end of the season for the SEC championship game? I think my head would explode!
And for the record, I think FSU would do just fine in the SEC and would be able to compete for the championship on a regular basis.
I do think we right now could come in and compete. However, having to play some of those west teams every year would be very challenging. However, this is all cyclical shit two years ago FSU would have got demolished if playing SEC teams, now things seems better for us.
Either way it appears that talk is dying down. Don' get to excited with ESPN they are kind of stupid when it comes to scooping college football stories.

LSU v Oregon
Georgia V Boise St
FSU v Oklahoma
Most of that would probably be eliminated.

When comparing the two conferences, it would be wise to include both divisions. The SEC east is weak right now but the SEC west is stacked.
