I had the bright idea this afternoon to try and dust off my xbox 360 vision camera and get it working in Ubuntu (so the little one can skype his grandparents).
Well it took probably half an hour of googling and another half an hour of updating drivers but i have been able to skype my mom on her laptop and my brother on his iphone.
Anyone else on skype? if so send me your username...
That is cool! Skype is notoriously bad on Ubuntu so I am impressed by your ability to get it working so quickly. Mine works but for some reason it doesn't like my built-in mic. If I put a microphone into the line-in jack, it works fine. Very odd. I also enjoyed your mom's phone call last night when she accidentally dialed me. Even though it was an oops, it was nice to hear her voice! Any thoughts on my issue with Ubunutu and Skype would be most appreciated. Oh and my skype username is my full name with no caps or spaces, much like my yahoo email.
Yeah my problem there is that the only device I have is the PulseAudio server and I have no other choices. It isn't a huge deal, as I can just plug a mic in, but it is a little inconvenient.

my mic didn't work at first either, i would do a test call and when they would play back my voice, it would just be silent.
i fixed it by going down the list of available mic devices in Options > Sound Devices > Microphone
just go down the list and keep doing "Make a test call" (be sure to hit apply first) until you find which one is your internal mic.

see there's your first problem, pulse is the biggest piece of garbage to come along since windows. i would ditch that completely and go with alsa.
